HaMapah/The Map Dance-on-Film

Wed, Dec. 6, 5:30pm- 6:45pm

Filene 119

HaMapah/The Map: Dance-on-Film is a genealogical dance journey that traces the intersections of Adam McKinney's African American, Native American, and Jewish heritages. The film weaves contemporary dance with archival material, personal interviews, Yiddish and American songs, and video set to traditional, contemporary, and classical music. McKinney, former Alvin Ailey dancer and newly appointed artistic director of the Pittsburgh Ballet, is an exquisite dancer and moving storyteller. Director Daniel Banks will screen the 30-minute film and then facilitate a storytelling circle exercise/conversation in response to the film.
