Award

The 糖心Vlog Saratoga Classic II, held in June, has won the 2013 Member鈥檚 Choice Award from the US Hunter Jumper Association. The award is based on feedback by participants on a competition鈥檚 facility, personnel and hospitality. The annual event drew about 500 participants for each of two weeks in June, and raised $238,000 for student scholarships. Over the past decade, the show has raised more than $3 million for scholarships. Adele Einhorn is executive director of the 糖心Vlog Saratoga Classic.

Activities

John Anzalone, Class of 1948 Professor for Excellence in Teaching and professor of French, led a conversation about the film The Train for the Oct. 30 Town and Gown Night at the Saratoga Film Forum. Anzalone has been introducing students to the masterpieces of French New Wave cinema for 25 years. The John Frankenheimer and Arthur Penn World War II thriller is his favorite American-made movie set in France.

Giuseppe Faustini, professor of Italian and director of the SDM Program, is serving as external reviewer Nov. 3-5 for the Middlebury College Department of Italian, Middlebury, VT. In addition, he delivered a paper: 鈥淭re film ottimali per insegnare lingua e cultura italiana: C鈥檈ravamo tanto amati, Stanno tutti bene! e La meglio giovent霉,鈥� Oct. 19 at the Teaching Italian Culture Conference at Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. He also delivered a lecture on 鈥淩epresentations of Politics and Society in Post-WWII Italian Cinema鈥� Sept. 28 to the Mohawk Valley Community College, Rome and Utica Campus, Sept. 28, 2012.

Publications

Tina Breakell, associate director of Off-Campus Study & Exchanges, recently co-edited and published the NAFSA professional publication, By Example: Resources for Education Abroad Offices and Advisers.The goal of this document is to provide a useful set of common sample forms and documents produced by different education-abroad offices in the US. This publication is intended to serve as a resource for newly developing offices and newcomers to the field, but can also provide interesting models for more experienced education-abroad professionals who are rethinking their approaches to the basics.

Giuseppe Faustini, professor of Italian and director of the SDM Program, published three articles and a review: 鈥淧irandello e Bontempelli: un cenacolo letterario,鈥� was published in Nuova Antologia (Firenze), Ottobre-Dicembre 2013.

鈥淕aribaldi and De Rohan:  The American Contribution and Stratagem Leading to the Unification of Italy,鈥� appeared in Nuova Rivista Storica, Anno 2013, Vol. XCVII. This article was reviewed by Dino Messina in Corriere della Sera, (Domenica), 14 luglio 2014, La Lettura,  p. 14.
